Weather Reports and Plants

Postby Canadian Ent » May 24, 2013 8:56 pm

I'm in zone 5a or 5b in Ontario.

My local weather forecast has a frost warning for overnight, but when I look at the hourly forecast I see that the low is 2 degrees celsius.

However, there are also "feels like" temperatures which go to minus 3 degrees celsius.

Which temperature is the one that effects plants? Does anyone know?

If it is the "feels like" temperature then I may have a serious concern about the ridiculous amount of impatiens I just planted.

Disreguard the "feels like" temp....that is for humans.....
Any temperature that is close to 0, like 1 or 2 degrees with a clear night and no wind is very likely to have frost.....cover your plants with a light sheet or towels so that the frost does not touch the leaves and you will be OK.....
If it is cloudy or windy at night, there is little chance that frost will form
