Sweet Peas and Roses

Postby ambibambi66 » Apr 03, 2013 4:53 pm

Hi, I wanted to plant sweet pea climbing vines in my front yard but instead of using a trellis, I was wondering if it was possible to use the rose bushes. Does anyone know if it'll be okay to use the roses or if it may actually harm them? Thanks in advance! :D

Hi there! I would avoid using another living plant as a trellis. Roses are finicky to begin with and once you get a vine climbing around them, it will be hard to prune both plants. The two will also compete for light and nutrients.

I'm with Tara on that. Trying to grow two healthy plants in the same space would be a problem.
