A plain glass vase holds an airy arrangement of hosta leaves and flowers, annual blue sage (Salvia guaranitica ‘Black and Blue’, or use another variety), the leaves and seed pods of false indigo (Baptisia australis) and annual statice.

First, criss-cross hosta and false indigo leaf stems in the vase to make a
grid-like frame. Next, tuck in flowers and seed pods. Top off with a few feather reed grass seedheads, cut long.
